Test is neither a requirement nor an obstacle to take part in the competition. It is up to your own judgement to decide for the group in which you want to compete.
If young skaters decide to take part in the competition they will be assigned to a separate group according to age.
The competition is meant to stimulate recreation ice dancing and pair skating.
The competition consists of a compulsory and a free section. Within a group in the compulsory section changing partners is not allowed. However you may skate with a different partner in another group within the compulsory section. Within the free section you may compete in as many groups as you like, with the same or with a different partner.
The American Waltz, the Tango, and the Quick Step are skated to ISU music. The Prelim Foxtrot and the Tulips from Amsterdam are skated to the Foxtrot and Viennese Waltz melodies. For the remaining dances Canadian and American test music will be used, with the exception of the Riverside Rumba which will be skated to standard ballroom music During the warm-up the music belonging to the dance will be played to allow each couple to become familiar with the chosen melodies. Each couple may choose its own introductory poses and steps. The first step of the dance does not need to coincide with the start of the melody.

The pattern may cover either half of the rink (4 sequences to be skated) or the complete ice surface (2 sequences to be skated). Although forward skating throughout the whole pattern of the dance is allowed it should be noted that a dance consisting of both forward and backward skating generally increases the difficulty level of the dance.

Two skaters (same or opposite sex) perform shadow and/or mirror skating in a variation dance. Partner holds are not permitted. Throughout the whole dance they should be separated. Spins and jumps are not allowed either. However intricate and fast footwork is highly recommended, as well as original body postures. Furthermore the program should contain one circle and one diagonal step sequence. Music: Waltz. Tempo: All waltzes are allowed, vocal music as well.
4. Adagio show program of 3 minutes duration
The main idea is to dramatically express a feeling, idea or concept. The choice of music is completely free. Requisites may be used to enhance the artistic interpretation. No restriction regarding posing, positions, postures, arabesques, sitting or lying on the ice, etc. All kind of lifts is permitted, including acrobatic.
5. Pair skating program of 2.30 minutes duration
